Pet Loss and Support for Caregivers of Chronically Ill Pets

Animal companions, also known as pets, are an integral part of many peoples’ lives. They give us unconditional love, companionship, entertainment, and joy.

When an animal friend becomes chronically ill, and sometimes terminally ill, the amount of medical care he or she needs can be overwhelming. Your life may change in many ways, and you are faced with many tough decisions. There is also a constant roller coaster of emotions. Similar to being a caregiver for a human family member or friend, caregivers of chronically ill animals need support and care themselves. Through the therapy process, we acknowledge these unique stressors and discover ways to manage this difficult time.

When an animal friend dies the loss is tremendous, yet many of the people around us do not understand, and we feel left without an avenue for mourning. Therapy can help through compassionate empathy. Together, we will honor your animal’s life and passing and find ways to ease the pain as you pass through this life transition.
