About Beverly

Curriculum Vitae (resume)

After spending many years helping people assess their challenges, improve their skills, and reach their goals in corporate settings, Beverly Swann, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, now integrates this expertise into the psychotherapy profession. As a therapist she sees her role as one of facilitator and guide, providing an environment that is gentle and safe for exploration and discovery, while incorporating the qualities of awareness, creativity, spirituality, humor, and resilience.

The foundation for her strengths-based, whole-person perspective on therapy is a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University with a specialization in Body Oriented (Somatic) Psychotherapy. In addition to seeing clients in her private practice, Beverly is a staff member of Casa Serena Intensive Outpatient Program for eating disorders.

Beverly would be honored to assist you on your path to finding joy, peace, success, life satisfaction, and contentment.

Body-Oriented (Somatic)Psychotherapy

Body-oriented psychotherapy (also known as somatic psychotherapy) does not replace traditional psychotherapy theories and techniques; rather, it introduces knowledge of physiology and neuroscience as well as mindfulness and meditation practices. An example of a body-oriented approach to anger management is studying the changes in your body when you get angry (i.e, clenched jaw, heat in cheeks) and near a place of losing control, in order to know these signs for the future and take action before the anger gets the best of you. Your body is your best resource!

Beverly is currently a member of the California Association for Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT), the Association of Professionals Treating Eating Disorders (APTED), and the United States Association for Body Psychotherapy (USABP).
